Then came summer vacation before Jr High
Long days of summer to interact with friends
And let’s not forget uncles, aunts and cousins
Parks, barbqs, road trips, and just because with kin
Sleepovers with girlfriends while imitating singing groups
Applying make-up, and talking about boys
About what we would do once we got to Jr high
OMG! I get goosebumps just remembering those childhood joys
When I went to pajama parties
I didn’t have to take little sisters along
But if you think they sat still while I enjoyed the summer
I want you to know that you are wrong
When us future Jr High attendees got together
Our collective adventurous spirit would naturally arouse
Taking our younger siblings along, we did basketball
Movies, waterslide parks, swimming, or THE ROLLERSKATERS HOUSE!
We needed funds for make-up, eating out, looking good
Flashing our dollars; our own private little wars
I intertwined going to work with community service
And helped some of grandma’s friends with their household chores
Fiancé told mom and us kids, they were gonna have
A contest at the garage based by category on the dopest ride
How he said he’d show us his business
That it would be nice if we could be by his side
The next day when we got home from swimming
Fiancé was there with one of his garage friends
He introduced us to this person who talked a lot
Then they got up to leave, I thought it would never end
We were told to tell mom when she got home
That he’d be back shortly, he didn’t have to go far
Sis and I watched as they drove away
I remember thinking, I’ve never seen a finer car
